Khat
Other names: Qat, Quat

Khat is an upper (stimulant) and is a leaf that is chewed which gives similar effects to amphetamines (speed). When you chew khat it makes you more alert and talkative. It can also stop you from feeling hungry.

Risks and Dangers
If you use a large amount of Khat it can lead to insomnia (not being able to sleep), heart problems and sexual health problems like impotence (can't get an erection).

Using khat an also cause anxiety and aggression and it can make any mental health problems worse. It can also make you very paranoid and irritable (make you lose your temper).

The Law
Khat is not an illegal drug in the UK although it is illegal in other countries were it is more widely used.
